Diwali Festival 2019
Head to this festival for vegetarian food, traditional Bhangra dance, henna and fireworks.
Overview
Head down to TSB Arena this November for the Diwali festival celebration you've been waiting for. Chock full of dance, culture, food, music and fireworks, this is the perfect way to spend your Sunday evening as we head into summer.
The festival of lights is the biggest cultural celebration of the year, with a strong focus on traditional symbolism and practices. Stand side by side with Wellington's local Indian and Southeast Asian community for the joining of cultures in an explosion of light, vibrancy and joy.
This festival comes from the ancient Hindu tradition of lighting lamps. This act symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and the idea of good over evil. The 2019 Diwali Festival will feature an exciting range of Indian food stalls, a selection of fashion and art-related stalls and traditional henna tattoo artists.
Of course, Diwali wouldn't be complete without eight non-stop hours of traditional and contemporary Bollywood and Bhangra performances. Embrace the joy in dance and movement that comes with this atmosphere and unique cultural practices. Then, make your way to Frank Kitts Park at 9.15pm for the fireworks display you simply can't miss. Entry to this event is by gold coin donation.
