Overview

Having poured at festivals across the globe over the past few years, Wellington's Garage Project has now decided it's their turn to roll out the red carpet and round up breweries for a dedicated craft beer festival.

In line with the Southern Hemisphere hop harvest, the inaugural Hāpi 2019 Beer Festival and Symposium will be held at Te Papa on April 6 from 7.30pm until midnight. The goal for the festival is to present a showcase of hop-forward beers from across the globe. All kegs will be airfreighted in fresh and cold. Breweries already confirmed to pour include: Hill Farmstead Brewery, Cloudwater Brew Co, Sierra Nevada, Firestone Walker Brewing Co., Stone Brewing, Modern Times Beer, Monkish Brewing Co., among several others.

Hāpi Festival is also being run as a non-profit event with all proceeds being channeled back into Hāpi Research, a program created to develop premium New Zealand hops for brewers across the globe. The idea for the festival came about alongside GP's work with Hāpi and Nelson's Freestyle Hops Farm, realising that everyone should be given the chance to taste brilliant intercontinental brews.

Hāpi Festival will sit alongside a brewing industry focused Symposium, also to be held in Te Papa on the same day. The Symposium will be a half day of talks from visiting international brewers, scientists and guest presenters.

Tickets will go on sale February 12 for $75. Stay tuned via the Garage Project mailing list.
