Overview

While the jury is still out on whether Amanda Seyfried was endearing or just plain annoying in the film, no one can deny that the stage production of Mamma Mia is phenomenal – particularly when it’s put together by the brilliant minds of Wellington Musical Theatre, presented at Saint James Theatre this 19 November through 6 December.

Stealing hearts with corny Swedish pop numbers since forever ago, Mamma Mia is one of the most popular musicals of all time and must be commended for its unfaltering ability to make you want to dance, fall in love and wear extravagantly flared pants.

It’s just about impossible that anyone in the western world doesn’t know the basic plot of Mamma Mia, but do indulge me as I do my duties and inform you. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter's quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother's past back to the Greek island paradise they last visited 20 years ago. Naturally, chaos, laughter and brilliant songs ensue. If someone tells you they weren’t dancing in the aisles by the time 'Take a Chance On Me' rolled around, they were almost definitely lying.
