O'Neill Aotearoa Surf Film Festival 2020

Overview

Now in its eighth year, the O'Neill Aotearoa Surf Film Festival celebrates the best of surf culture and our connection with the environment through a curated selection of international surf features, documentaries and short films.

This year the ASFF kicks off in Gisborne on Saturday, 22 February before dropping in to Wellington's Light House Cinema on March 3 and Auckland's Crystal Palace Theatre for the festival finale on April 3. The official film selection for 2020 includes three features and a selection of films from the ASFF short film competition.

From director Perry Gershkow, Elude is a visual odyssey following free surfer Noah Wegrich and his friends around the world, from the warm waters of Indonesia to the cold waters of Scotland. Satori is a cinematic film documenting a group of close-knit big wave surfers who have dedicated their lives to the ocean and riding the huge waves on the shores of picturesque Cape Town, South Africa. Finally, White Rhino tells the story of big wave surfers and photographers who witnessed the largest surf ever seen on South Pacific shorelines.

The selection of short films will precede each session. Attendees can expect a curated selection of shorts spanning Indonesia, Spain, New Zealand and Australia. A licensed bar will be available in the cinema for the main festival.
