Overview
Included in many 'best films of all time' lists, Singin' In The Rain is a tale of Hollywood in the 1920s, when the movie bizz was turned upside down by the introduction of sound. The 1957 film was made into a stage show in 2012, and has been a major success in the UK. It is only fitting then that a show with such a name make its New Zealand debut in this wonderfully weather influenced city of ours.
Even if those of a younger generation are unaware of the movie itself, they will definitely be familiar with the song that shares the same name as the film title. The song was memorably part of the original as Gene Kelly danced to it while splashing through rain puddles, and it is sure to be one of the highlights of this stage show also. 'Singin' In The Rain', and many more of the films glorious songs and choreography will be recreated with the help of 12,000 litres of water.
A talented cast awaits the Wellington crowd, included are Bethany Dickson who recently played Maria in The Sound Of Music, and Don Lockwood who recently played the lead role of Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys. Described by The Telegraph as a "night of sheer delight", Singin' In The Rain will be performed over 16 separate nights at the St James Theatre.
Just a warning though, if you sit in the front rows you are likely to get a little wet.
