Space Place Presents
Celebrate NZ Music Month with stargazing, moon rock fondling and Mongolian throat singing.
Overview
Vastly underrated venue Space Place is hosting a series of concerts in May to celebrate New Zealand Music Month. Space Place is already a pretty stellar spot to spend a winter evening with a touch of southern sky stargazing, black hole experimenting or moon rock fondling (yes, really), so make a night of it with a few choice local acts.
On 7 May, The Troubles are bringing their huge jazz sound to Space Place. These guys are undoubtedly one of Wellington's best live acts and have performed at several Edinburgh Fringe Festivals, so you may find yourself dancing on a fake space station.
Newtown Rocksteady are lined up for 14 May, with key members of Wellington's music scene performing their original rocksteady sound with a sprinkling of dub and soul. On 21 May, it's a double-bill with psychedelic supergroup TEETH followed by indie rock from Earth Tongue.
And 28 May wraps up the month with eclectic trio The All Seeing Hand, whose sound combines throat singing, turntablism and drumming. Yep.
All the gigs cost $15, and take place every Sunday in May kicking off at 8.30pm.
