Overview

Storage and transportation aren't the only things shipping containers are good for. The corrugated steel boxes are being used as coffee shops, tiny houses, market stalls, pop-up saunas and an annual Wellington festival fixture.

From 23-25 February and 1-4 March the Wellington waterfront will be transformed into shipping container central with The Performance Arcade. The Performance Arcade is a contemporary, interdisciplinary festival of visual art and performance set within the architectural parameters of stacked shipping containers.

Arcade-goers can experience the innovations and cutting-edge art practices of national and international creatives. The miniature festival allows audiences to encounter art, artists and culture in new and interactive ways. With live music, dance, theatre, film, workshops, social experiments and experiences  — there's something for everyone.

Take a weekend stroll along the waterfront and grab a bite to eat and maybe something to drink, then lose yourself in the inventive world built entirely on shipping containers.
