Overview
On the first Thursday of October, Wellington's City Gallery will be home to a wide variety of events spanning art, music, film and food.
Key events include a talk and listen session with Michael Green and Jon Tjhia from the Manus Recording Project Collective, a LitCrawl taster session which gives writers the chance to respond to the Eavesdropping exhibition, and new writing from novelists Annaleese Jochems and Catherine Robertson, as well as poets Nikki Lee Birdsey and Ruby Solly.
The evening will also include music from DJ Antsman and a live performance from producer and songwriter Lake South, whose music is described as 'sentimental synth-pop'.
At the heart of the evening is new exhibit Eavesdropping, featuring recordings from an audio archive of life on Manus Island. The archive is built from ten-minute recordings sent daily from six men detained by the Australian government on Manus Island: Farhad Bandesh, Behrouz Boochani, Samad Abdul, Shamindan Kanapathi, Kazem Kazemi and Abdul Aziz Muhamat.
The bar and galleries open at 5pm, with food and drinks available from The Greek Food Truck, Tuatara beers and Seresin Estate wine. Entry is by donation.
