Overview

Established five years ago, VISA Wellington On A Plate - the capital's most hotly anticipated annual food festival - has now grown into a tourist attraction with the same mass appeal of the Sevens or the WearableArts show.

With nearly one hundred restaurants participating, the festival is a celebration of Wellington's distinctive foodie scene and culture; its boutique breweries, vineyards, harbourside restaurants, quirky inner-city cafes and organic producers and suppliers.

It's not just about boring ol' eating, though - you can try your hand at baking giant New York-style pretzels, dining blind, attending a symphonic feast, and learning about the relationship between architecture, food and wine.

There are 118 events over the fortnight-long festival, well worth booking the flights and sinking your teeth into.
