Overview

Kiwi chocoholics, mark Monday in your diaries. Local chocolate brand Whittaker's is dropping a brand-new flavour next week and it sounds like a local answer to Cadbury's beloved Caramilk flavour.

The new chocolate variety from Whittaker's is 'Blondie-licious': a toasted caramel and buttermilk white chocolate Whittaker's claims will "set the standard for caramelised white chocolate". Is that a bit of shade on Cadbury we hear?

Of course, Caramilk became a sensation upon its temporary run in 2018 and permanent return to shelves in 2019, triggering a wave of viral online recipes and limited-edition products. It remains to be seen if Whittaker's take will have quite the same effect, but if previous excitement over their new products is anything to go by, we're willing to put money on it being a success. Who can forget the security guards in New Zealand supermarkets during the great Lewis Road Creamery collaboration of 2014?

Co-Chief Operating Officer, Holly Whittaker, says they've been working on the recipe for years after demand from their die-hard fans.

"We worked hard to perfect the recipe to ensure we could stay true to our vision of a naturally caramelised white chocolate that doesn't require added caramel flavours or colourings and to ensure we met our own high standards for quality," she said in a statement.

"[Our] chocolate lovers have been asking for a flavour like this over the years, so we're delighted to finally share it with them."

The new flavour will be available in a classic 250g block, as well as in a 50g bar and mini-slab packs, from Monday — just in time to enjoy eating it while watching Euphoria that evening.

Whittaker's 'Blondie-licious' blocks will be available in stores nationwide from Monday, February 21.
