Auckland is joining other great cities of the world like New York, Amsterdam and London with its very own ice skating rink in the heart of the city. There's free ice skating lessons, skating demonstrations, snow sculpture-making, competitions, snow canon and themed weekends in the mix, so make sure you get to Aotea Square during the day, in the school holidays or in the evening.

This is one of those 'money can't buy' opportunities (although it's $20 for adults including skate hire) to try something new and fun if you haven't before.  You'll likely end up with a sore ass (who doesn't these days?) but with great memories. And if Love Actually and a bunch of other movies are anything to go by, you might just meet your next ex-wife.
