Overview

One of Auckland's most popular cultural festivals has been reimagined for 2020 alongside COVID-19 precautions. Instead of featuring its traditional gathering in Aotea Square, this year's Auckland Diwali Festival will include more than 100 activities and experiences across the region.

The Festival of Lights will shine through communities from 27 October to 14 November. Seven venues — from Warkworth to Papatoetoe — have programs featuring a mix of cooking, dance and music workshops, panel discussions, film nights and activations.

Highlights on the family-friendly lineup include a spice market, art and light installations, evenings of classical Indian music, and a free film series featuring Bride and the Prejudice, Lion, Yesterday and Life of Pi. Auckland landmarks will also be lighting up in celebration of Diwali, including a rangoli-inspired show on the Auckland Harbour Bridge.
