Overview

The Auckland Writers Festival isn't just for bookworms; there's something for everyone at this celebration of curiosity and intellectual adventure. With over 150 of the world’s best writers and thinkers, the event boasts a heady mix of interviews, conversations, debate, theatre and workshops for budding writers.

This year’s literary star is Pulitzer Prize winner novelist and activist Alice Walker, who’s here to discuss her life's work. Also at the festival will be our very own Man Booker prize winner Eleanor Catton, not to mention a heap of other geniuses from both the fiction and non-fiction worlds..

If you don’t like sitting still then join in the intellectual escapades of Nigerian born playwright, poet and adventurer Inua Ellams as he takes you on a Midnight Run through Auckland City. Or why not put pen to paper yourself and sign up to one of the several writing workshops on offer from experienced creative writers.

Musos will enjoy debriefing on the memoir of the late Dave McArtney of Hello Sailor, while foodies can savour the culinary experience straight off the pages of Nicky Pellegrino's The Food of Love Cookery School with a three-course Italian lunch at Toto Restaurant with the author.
