Red Bull BC One Cyphers 2012

Overview

Red Bull BC One Cyphers are coming to Auckland as part of Red Bull's international search for the world's best Break Dancers, and surely, they have come to the right place, with New Zealand hosting some world champions in the past.

Held at Zeal West, the Red Bull BC One Cypher gives two New Zealanders the chance to battle their way onto the Red Bull BC One Asia Pacific Qualifier stage in September, with the ultimate goal of being named World B-Boy Champion at the final in Rio de Janeiro.

The B-Boys will be judged in the art of Break Dancing by New Zealand B-Boy pioneers; Douglas ‘Swervone’ Wright, Robert ‘Mayhem’ Ramsey and Sen ‘Khmer’ Thong.

Each B-Boy will have the chance to show the judges their moves in an open floor Cypher, before a top 16 is decided upon. From here the 16 will compete in 1-on-1 knock out rounds, where they will have to show the judges 3 solos per battle to the beats DJ Spell spins for them.

The champion from each Cypher in Auckland and Wellington wins the right to one of the 16 spots available at the BC One Asia Pacific Qualifier. Here they will represent New Zealand in the next level of the competition where they will battle fellow B-Boys from Australia, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, South Asia, Laos and Vietnam in an attempt to reach the World Final, which will be held in December 2012.

This is the perfect opportunity to see some of New Zealand's, and the world's best break dancers. Surely this can provide enough impetus for some of us to pick up our A-game on the dance floor and move away from the boring two steps and chin splitting caterpillars.
