TroyBoi

An unconventional, multi-layered trap producer.

Overview

When he's not collaborating with Flosstradamus or Diplo, or guest mixing for BBC Radio 1, London native and trap producer TroyBoi can be found bunkered up alone in his studio for up to 17 hours straight crafting new tunes. The man is a musical workhorse.

His take on trap has been described as 'groovy, Middle-Eastern style beats' but TroyBoi dodges labels and conventional musical practices, crediting his Indian, Chinese, Portuguese, and Nigerian mixed background as well as growing up in the melting pot that is London for his interesting take on the trap genre. “I feel I'm still evolving, and I can't wait to take it a step further. I couldn't think of anything worse than being labeled as a 'Trap Producer' in a non-evolving genre, stuck making the same old beat pattern, same drum kit, same 808, same synths with the same old formula,” TroyBoy told EDM. “I don't believe in being a one-trick-pony; I'd rather be a five-trick-platypus”.

Trap music has gained some ground in the mainstream with tracks like 'Harlem Shake' and 'Turn Down for What' but hasn't as yet gotten enough of a foothold to not be relegated to the hype category. Producers like TroyBoi are changing that though.

His gig at Galatos will be his first show in New Zealand.
