From all four corners of Asia comes a suburban newcomer unlike anything the upmarket area of Remuera has offered in the past. Previously, discovered only by meandering the stalls of La Cigale French Market, locals and the likes can rejoice in the arrival of handcrafted, locally produced dumplings, placed almost right at their doorstep. 

Over the past few years, Dumplings With Wings owner Anna Wu has lived and breathed the culinary scenes of the UK, France, and India. Taking with her a global understanding, Wu is attempting to widen our gastronomic horizon and nudge us outside the safe confines of pork and chives.

Adhering to such a notion is a menu boasting combinations like Mexican-spiced beef, Korean-inspired pork and flavours combinations like mushrooms and mung bean noodles. The menu itself is kept simple with five options plus a special combination that changes seasonally. Another difference comes as each morsel is distinguished by coloured vegetable dye.

Proving a crowd pleaser are the Japanese pork mushroom dumplings. A wicked combination of locally sourced pork, cabbage, mushrooms and a hint of ginger, places this option in good stead. Order adventurously with the Indian chicken tikka masala combo. Noted are the Indian spices that excite the palate to be calmed by vine tomatoes that refresh the short burst of heat. 

Whether you're vegan and vegetarian, you can rest easy, knowing you're looked after, with a delicious Chinese five spice option. With carrots, mushroom, mung bean noodles, and spring onion, you'll be hard pressed to resist ordering a double portion next visit. 

What's more, patrons can look forward to a few interior tweaks and kerbside seating options that are being organised over the coming weeks. Not to mention a liquor license that's in the pipeline, that could potentially make this the neighbourhood's new watering hole.
