Overview
Dominion Road's latest establishment Fryday has opened and, as the name suggests, it specialises in fried goodness.
This Taiwanese-style restaurant offers punters the option to choose what they want to be fried. The options include a variety of meats and vegetables to be frizzled and flavoured with Fryday's very own special spices. Those who have been lucky enough to visit Taiwan will have seen this popular method used by the hundreds of street vendors that line the central metropolis, but to Aucklanders the idea is unique. The Fryday owners are looking to develop the tradition by offering locals a comfortable late night alternative.
Although the bao, crispy chicken cutlets and popcorn chicken are the flagship dishes, Fryday's alluring tea section is not to be missed. The café may just be the first establishment in Auckland to offer Taiwan's latest beverage trend of cheese tea. Though cheese and tea doesn't sound like the ideal thirst quencher, Fryday's version, which can be ordered as green or oolong, comes topped with whipped cream cheese. The mix of sweet and saltiness adds a flavoursome punch.
To add to the smorgasbord of fried options, the waffle fries are not to be forgotten. Similar to the chicken they are pampered in delicious spices and are served with kimchi.
Needless to say, if you're hunting down the ideal drunken munch menu, Fryday should top the list. Though owner Rounny Lin's aim is to offer this service the quality of the food means it can be enjoyed as a satisfying lunch and dinner as well. Those who often find themselves lacking options in the late evening should certainly thank God for Fryday and add it to their cheat meal diary.
