Overview

After a successful stint as a travelling food truck and catering vegan events, Gorilla Kitchen has now planted itself on the fringe of the CBD. From a regular set up at the Warriors home games, the new permanent space is not far away, conveniently tucked into the shops of Eden Terrace. It's hard to miss the larger-than-life stenciled gorilla decal on the window, but don't let it put you off, the food is seriously good.

If you're on the go, the cabinet is stuffed full of more sweet and savoury snacks and meals than you could imagine. Everything from decadent gluten-free macaroni and cheese to green salads bursting with colour. The savoury scone was perfection, but if you have a sweet tooth, you cannot go past the chocolate and vanilla melting moments. It's difficult not to order everything once you see the breakfast menu boasting French toast, corn fritters with dairy-free sour cream and the most incredible smashed avocado on bruschetta.

I'm a sucker for indoor greenery, and this place seems to just be finding its feet. Each table is adorned with a small potted plant, ivy climbs the back wall and various lilies are sprinkled from counter to front window. Gorilla Kitchen has a real focus on building community; the space welcomes live music, with fundraising nights and open jam sessions already lined up for their first official week. Other regular events include Burgers and Booch every Thursday from 5-9pm. Rotating your favourite flavours of Lokal and Organic Mechanic kombucha on tap, it's hard to say no.

Open seven days and serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, Wednesday through Saturday, you are bound to find something you love. The staff are attentive and friendly, and only one day after the official launch, I can only see them getting better. With its central location, diverse menu and cute décor, this is a place that will leave omnivores, vegans and everyone in between feeling good.
