This Potts Point florist has changed hands over the years, but it’s never lost touch with its local customers — and that’s because the team here keeps things simple, elegant and exquisitely wrapped. The store’s signature blue paper means if you’re receiving a surprise gift, you often know where your flowers have come from before you’ve read the label. When you visit the art deco store on Macleay Street, expect a sensory overload — masses of colourful tulips, roses and orchids, as well as a selection of scented candles and botanical soaps from Orris.

At this Glenayr Avenue florist, owner Jenni May is always ready to spitball an idea for a bouquet to meet your needs. Camellias, peonies, tulips and turned-out roses pack the wooden tables on one side of the store, and once you’ve locked in your budget, she’s busy plucking stems to make an arrangement that can soothe a broken heart, surprise a parent-to-be, or brighten up a friend’s day.
May visits the flower markets three times a week, and if you want the freshest of the bunch you should trust her best judgement. And if you’ve left things to the last minute, you can place a same-day delivery order before 11am Monday–Saturday.

When you really want to make a statement, send a bouquet of flowers arranged by My Violet. Sydney florist Myra Perez opened up her Rosebery studio after seven years based in Redfern, and she is known for her bold, textural designs that are entirely led by what’s in season and arranged for the biggest impact on the eye.
Bright and vibrant colours take precedence over more delicate shades, and Perez’s team uses height, volume, colour and textural contrast to turn heads wherever the flowers are delivered. Though the Rosebery studio is open throughout the week, it’s best to order online for deliveries within eight kilometres of the CBD; you can order the Surprise Me! options or choose from tones like vibrant, jewel and white from $150 upwards.

This local florist has over 25 years of experience serving passersby with freshly cut flowers to take back to their homes, or a potted plant to brighten up an office desk. The store is brimming with reasonably priced blooms so if you’re there to pick up a gift, it’s likely you’ll add a cluster of lavender or a single protea to your order especially for you.

Neighbourhood florist Penny Clarke prides herself on transforming spaces with her floral designs. Operating out of a store in Leichhardt, Flowers on Norton St can craft flower arrangements to suit any occasion, be it a garden party, wedding or a grand romantic gesture.
The experienced team builds bespoke bouquets for customers, in store or online, from as little as $49 a bunch. There are posies of sweet peas, hardy Australian eucalypts, or bunches of poppies that pop with colour. The abundant bouquets represent the sense of fun this store brings to its arrangements — which they say are neoclassical in style and never repetitive.
It supports local growers and always stocks seasonal flowers first, such as sweet peas grown in Sydney, or peonies available only in late winter. Floriade delivers across Sydney, and it has an especially handy late cut-off time of 4pm for same-day deliveries. Flowers start from $90 with bouquets costing you anywhere up to $380 if you’re looking to go big.

With two decades of experience under his tool belt and a portfolio of clients from the Australian Ballet to Paddington restaurant Saint Peter, florist Sean Cook is at the top of the floristry game in Sydney. His work is often focused on large-scale events, such as weddings, fashion shoots and corporate luncheons — and Cook can certainly impress with a suspended garland of vibrant pinks and purples.
Sourcing flowers from preferred growers at the markets in Flemington, Mr Cook works with a team of professionals to pull off epic showcases of floral design. He says his style is raw, rather than prim, and you can gauge more of the jaw-dropping table arrangements on his Instagram page. Though rare, Mr Cook does create flowers for delivery, too.

Florist George Low has been working for decades to craft beautiful floral designs for private residences, corporate clients and the occasional sweet sixteenth or 90th birthday garden party. Previously run with floral partner Elizabeth Johnson, Low has now taken solo helm of the longstanding shop. Following a ten year stint in Ultimo and Alexandria, Seed Flora is now based in Marrickville where it handles giant slipper orchids and tall branches of cherry blossom for large order-only businesses.
To make an order, Seed Flora is best contacted through its Instagram page, or via phone. Low isn’t afraid to make an entrance, and experimenting with unnatural colours like metallics and blue dyed roses is part of the fun of playing with what nature provides.
