Overview

The BrisAsia Festival is a new initiative run by the Brisbane City Council, celebrating and promoting the rich culture added to the city by its extensive Asian community.

Spread throughout February is a massive itinerary of great events combining elements of Asian culture, cuisine, music and art with notable Brisbane landmarks as the locale.

For ease of perusal, here are a few of the events that will be taking place. Check out the Brisbane City Council BrisAsia page for a full list of events.

Of Silk, Bamboo and Elephants
Queensland Conservatorium’s Dr Nicholas Ng presenting an enchanting concert of classical Chinese music followed by a presentation of southern Indian classical music featuring erhu, guzheng, tavil and other traditional Asian instruments.

Big Aussie-Asian BBQ
Woks, dumplings, rice dishes and open air Asian cuisine master classes with feature guest Poh Ling Yeow.
Where: Reddacliff Place, Brisbane CBD
When: Friday, 15 February, 4-9pm

Eastern Odyssey
Amid the garden and bamboo beauty of Brisbane’s own Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens, take a musical and artistic journey through Tibet, China, Japan, India and Mongolia with some of the biggest names in classical Asian music such as Dr Nicholas Ng, Tensin Choegyal, Takako Haggarty, Dheeraj Shrestha, Professor Huib Schippers, Bayan Batsukh and Toko-ton.

When: Sunday, 17 February, 2-5pm

Neon Pop!
Bring your brights or don the neon as King George Square is transformed to a giant dance floor for one mega night of Asian pop and electronic music.
Where: King George Square, Brisbane CBD
When: Saturday, 23 February, 5-10pm
