Overview

Belvedere Bar n Grill at Portside Wharf is a steak-lovers paradise. Set right on the water, arrive before sunset to enjoy a drink and views across the river. Putting the class back into steakhouse dining, Belvedere breaks down generic and tasteless masculine steakhouse style and makes this place a perfect date-night venue.

Beef is the specialty and you won't be short on choice. From organic beef in every cut to dry aged and grain fed varieties, choose a local steak from Darling Downs, Queensland or branch south to Cape Grim, Tasmania, Gippsland, Victoria or southern New South Wales. Order the dainty 200g eye fillet ($39) or go out with a 1kg T-bone for two ($79). All steaks are cooked to your liking and served with rosemary salt dusted steak fries and sauce of your choice.

For those not into steak there are some options. The roasted rack of lamb ($34) with aubergine puree, green beans and potato gems is a great option, otherwise there are a few seafood and poultry choices. Vegetarians will have a hard time but I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to make a request.

Entrees are small works of art and at the very least try the stuffed baby squid ($18.50).  Filled with a delicious mix of chorizo, piquillo pepper and kalamata olives, these guys are a flavour sensation. Give in to the pork belly foodie craze and try their confit berkshire pork belly ($19.50). The soft belly with crispy skin is set on a pea puree and topped with scallops - everyone knows scallops make everything better.

If there is still space in your tum, after smashing down a 1kg T-bone with your date, the dark chocolate semifreddo ($12) hits the spot without being sickly sweet thanks to the coconut cream, sour cherry compote and cherry ice cream. For the adventurous types, the vodka (yes, vodka) and buttermilk panna cotta ($12) with summer fruits and baby basil breaks the barriers of sweet, savoury and, well, drinks, to bring adventurous flavours - perhaps just the first adventure for the night.
