Overview

Brisbane's Sky Deck will get you 100 metres above the river and a 360-degree view from inside The Star. But for a vantage point that doesn't require a lift, the top of the Kangaroo Point Cliffs remains hard to beat, and Joey's has the best seat on it — a 180-degree sweep over the CBD and the river bend below, taken in from an open-air terrace rather than a glass floor.

The look leans further into its European-summer references since renovations, with white timber furniture, striped umbrellas and greenery filling a light-filled, alfresco dining space that overlooks the cliffside. A custom-built wood-fired oven now sits front and centre near the entrance, a sign of where the kitchen's focus has landed.

Breakfast runs daily from 6am to 11am on a walk-ins-only basis, with coffee pouring from 5.30am. The morning menu covers eggs your way, coastal granola, avocado on toast, a golden yolk hash and Joey's big brekkie. From midday, the kitchen shifts into lunch and dinner — antipasti, natural oysters and wood-fired pizzas (margherita, prosciutto, nduja) give way to fresh pasta, a Kidman striploin, coral coast barramundi and roast half chicken, with the pizzeria running until late.

Drinks-wise, the list has gone deep on Italian references, too, from a negroni and spritz selection to canned cocktails, mocktails and a wine list stretching from Chablis to Champagne. Joey's also takes group bookings for long lunches, birthdays and weddings, for anyone wanting the view for more than one sitting.
