As well as always being cute, cats know something that we humans tend to forget — how great it is to spend a few relaxing hours in a sunny spot. Sure, we two-legged folks love beaches, picnics and the usual outdoor activities, but it's easy to overlook the joys of simply spending a cloud-free afternoon in a bar's bright and breezy outdoor area.

If you're a Brisbanite, you've really got no excuse not to head outdoors all year-round. With help from our friends at Heineken, we've rounded up four spots where you can soak up the sun and sip on a few Heineken 3s. If that sounds like your idea of bliss, read on.

Smack bang in the middle of the CBD, Queen Street stalwart Jimmy’s on the Mall predates plenty of people. In fact, if you were born after 1982, it has been here longer than you have. The venue has undergone a number of changes during that time, unsurprisingly, and its latest guise is tailor-made for whiling away a day with a beer in-hand. Downstairs, on the mall level, is a perfect place for the shade-dwellers, while upstairs the sun-lovers can lap up plenty of rays.

Two things epitomise the Bar Pacino experience perfectly: the view and the vibe. Located right on the edge of the Brisbane River, it’s the kind of spot that makes it easy to forget if you’re supposed to be somewhere else — so take our advice and clear your day for your visit, and maybe your evening afterwards. Given the vantage point, there’s nowhere better to be in the CBD on a sunny day. Given that Heineken 3s are on offer, you won’t be thirsty. And you won’t be hungry, either — pair your stint in the sun with a cheese plate, pizza or a parmigiana.

Few views in Brisbane are as famous as Stokehouse’s — its South Bank location makes it one of the most coveted spots in the city. While it makes a stellar backdrop for a decent lunch — if you’re feeling a little flush, that is — it’s also a top place to watch the afternoon pass by in the bar. A selection of salumi and cheese will help brighten up your day if the beer and the sun haven’t already. On Sundays, DJs will also assist with setting the mood from 2pm — or, if you’re ducking out of work early at the end of the week — they’ll do the same from 4pm on Fridays.

White walls, white fixtures and furniture, an airy deck and a peninsula view — The Belvedere couldn’t scream sunny daytime hangout louder if it tried. Overlooking Bramble Bay at Woody Point, it’s the type of pub that gets you hoping for clear weather so that you can spend your day there. It also represents part of Brisbane’s history, dating back to 1901. Catching a sunset in the beer garden is one of those things every Brissie local has to do at least once in their lives, and it looks even more gorgeous if you’ve been there all afternoon enjoying tasty brews.
