Cafe West End

Cafe Disco

This '70s-inspired cafe serves up an inventive Bangladeshi-style brunch menu. You can opt for specialty coffee, tea or a cheeky afternoon vino, depending on the mood.

Overview

Cafe Disco is a tempting beacon of late mornings done right. The cheery yellow exterior of this 40-seater mingles with retro touches such as bottle-green finishings and striking red houndstooth booths. A cacophony of sizzle and spice wafts from the kitchen, mixing in with a vinyl soundtrack.

The brunch menu is imbued with the flavours of owner Tasfeen Hassan's Bangladeshi heritage. Every item is inspired primarily by Hassan's memories of his grandma's cooking. Gloriously messy, the veggie brekkie roll comes with fiery kecap manis (Indonesian soy sauce) and a refreshing raita, while the chilli scramble is topped with a gremolata of Thai green chillies. The diner is vegetarian-friendly, but omnivores can indulge in the lamb meatball congee and some fresh kofta in house-baked pita. A revolving line-up of sweets includes pandan and coconut cream puffs — an ideal sidecar for Northgate's Passport Coffee brews.

Cafe Disco only opens until 2pm, but the drinks are flowing. The short and sweet list of Aussie wines — plus four cocktails — makes the diner a top-shelf stop on an afternoon bar crawl in the West End.
