Overview
The team behind Ta'ameya (pronounced tah-may-ah) just wanted the OG falafel — made with fava beans (broad beans) instead of chickpeas — the way it's been done in Egypt for centuries. Now they are known for the crispy-on-the-outside, fluffy-within lunch bites, which are packed with flavour. It's the specialty this CBD spot has built its name on.
The menu leans into Egyptian and Middle Eastern flavours, plant-forward and built around local, seasonal produce, with animal products kept to a minimum and sustainability front of mind. Warm pita pockets, fresh bowls, crisp salads and a rotating cast of sides make up the offering. Recently, pistachio and tahini-stuffed dates made their debut on the menu, showing the team is constantly experimenting and expanding their range.
Ta'ameya started at the local markets back in 2021 and has been growing ever since, running as a pop-up in Spencer Lane and gradually adding trading days before launching its own full-time store in Brisbane's CBD in late 2026.
