Overview

Every suburb has one, or it should. We're talking about a cosy corner cafe that lures you in with their laid-back atmosphere, and lavishes your taste buds with their delicious food. After opening in Camp Hill in mid April, Cafe Grenadine is doing its best to earn that mantle. Their cute weatherboard cottage takes care of the former, while more than the usual brekkie, brunch and lunch dishes have the latter covered.

There's just something about walking into an eatery that used to be many other things, soaking up the vibe, and basking in the white and light decorating scheme. Once you sample Cafe Grenadine's meals, however, you won't care what their decor looks like.

Think hearty, humble but never boring selections that taste as good as they sound. While every place in Brisbane seems to serve waffles these days, here they're made from pumpkin, paired with pears poached in maple syrup, and topped with mascarpone cream, salted pumpkin caramel and candied pumpkin skin. Beef short-rib hash with sweet onions, spicy berber omelette tagine and salmon fish cakes with lemon caper butter sauce rank among the other standouts. Wash it all down with a Bear Bones coffee or Mayde organic handmade tea — or take some beans and leaves home with you afterwards and make your own.
