Overview
Like its name might suggest, Nana and Da's is very charming. This gem is a prime example of why the ever-growing northside cafe scene holds its own against inner city cafe clusters. Its combo of tasty food, quality service and a unique interior works well. You may have a little trouble finding the cafe if Kedron is unfamiliar, but luckily it has one distinguishing feature — a wooden kangaroo on the footpath out front.
Visiting Nana and Da's feels like calling in to your grandparents' or an old friend's house as the gorgeous polished floors and warm blue wallpaper with pink flowers is perfectly homely. The whole cafe exudes both Australian charm and a welcoming atmosphere that is instantly loveable. A key component of the space is the second feature wall which depicts twee illustrations of birds and deer drawn on book pages. The interior's pretty appearance is balanced nicely with wooden chairs, floorboards and tables.
Staff were prompt to guide us to a table, provide menus and happily answer questions. While the range of meals is not extensive, each choice is appealing and filled with fresh produce. The specials boards also offered a couple of options that sounded mouth-watering such as quinoa fritters. For an early light lunch the pumpkin, tamari almonds, with quinoa tabouleh, and lemon tahini dressing ($15.50) proved to be a good choice. Another tasty lunchtime treat was the house made pork and apple sausage, sauteed potato, fennel and onion with jus ($18.50). Nana and Da's coffee was without fault.
Inside, the bustling cafe was quite noisy due to the large amount of happy diners. If you enjoy a quieter atmosphere to chow down, there are plenty of tables outside and Fido is welcome to hang out with Skippy while you eat.
