Overview

If you've the time to linger over a long brekkie or lunch, Melbourne has plenty of cafes that'll happily spend time with you. But if you're in a rush, laying your hands on quality takeaway isn't quite so easy. That's where Heresy comes in.

Since opening just before Easter, Heresy has been bringing fast, healthy food to Melburnians rushing down Equitable Place. On the menu you'll find breakfast salad with buckwheat, avocado, broccoli, kale, chilli and an optional egg on top, along with a baked egg wrapped in bacon with sweet potato and parsley, and an egg, bacon and avo brekkie roll. There's also a bunch of sweets, including chia puddings, all sugar-free.

Heresy's coffee beans come from independent boutique roaster Rosso. There's a house blend, plus a single origin which changes weekly.

Come lunchtime, tuck into your pick of five salads — they're all vegan or vegetarian, and all gluten-free. They space is tiny, so everything is made in Heresy's off-site kitchen on Chapel Street each morning. Plus, there's an eco-awareness to match the healthy ethos. Every grab-and-go item comes in a re-usable, recyclable, jar or container, which fits easily in your bag.

Should you have time to hang around, nab one of 12 seats. The pale timbers, pendant lighting and big splashes of greenery could well have you wanting to take five.
