Overview

One of the tastiest times of year is officially upon us thanks to an event that is dedicated to our favourite things — eating and drinking. Throughout May, loads of restaurants are serving up one-off menus, offering discounts on dishes and sharing culinary secrets for American Express delicious. Month Out.

With so much on offer, it can be hard to decide where to go — that's where we come in. To help you find your ideal feast, we've scoured the program to bring you our top picks. From dumpling masterclasses to a progressive lunch at multiple venues, here are our picks for a delicious time this May.

The Progressive Lunch is tailor-made for all the decision-averse food enthusiasts out there. Don’t want to commit to just one exceptional culinary experience? Neither do I! That’s why I’m traversing the izakayas of Japan, diving into contemporary Mexican cuisine and doing a stint in Sri Lanka in this globe-trotting feast featuring a few of the CBD’s dining mainstays.

You’ll start at Kid Kyoto for the first course, follow it up with main dishes from the fresh-focused Mejico menu and you’ll cap off the journey with something sweet at INDU. There’s a signature cocktail at each so, again, there’s no decision-making required — a trip that I’ll happily embark on.

If you’re looking to treat yourself to a meal you’ll be thinking about long after it’s over, head to Nour in Surry Hills on Wednesday, May 25, and let two of Sydney’s most revered chefs combine their expertise on a historic trip through Arabic and Sicilian cuisines in A Taste of Siqilliya.

Due to the Arabic rule over Sicily in the late first century, there are many ties between Arabic culture and Sicilian food. Nour’s Head Chef, Luca Lonati, will be exploring these ties with the help of Lino Sauro of Olio Kensington Street through a one-off collaborative set menu. Highlights from the menu include swordfish pastirma, an eggplant and haloumi parmigiana, yellowfin tuna tartare and wagyu beef farsu magru (meat loaf) — all of which will be paired with drinks created with Campari. Plus, if you’re an American Express Card Member, you can also get a discount on your bill.

Few things scream ‘Sydney’ as loudly as a sunset drink at Bar 83. This May, the sky-high bar perched atop Sydney Tower is encouraging punters to get behind this quintessential Sydney experience via its Sunset Seeker packages.

There are three two-hour packages for you to choose from which are all designed for two people. For $120, you’ll nab a bottle of prosecco and a tasting plate to share. The $200 package includes a half dozen oysters, tasting plate and a bottle of G.H. Mumm champagne. Or, to go all out, select the $300 package complete with a bottle of Perrier-Jouët Blason rosé, a dozen oysters, a tasting plate and sweets to enjoy while you watch the sun go down from the best seat in Sydney.

A bright, sunshine-hued Potts Point terrace is both a heritage-listed cultural landmark and home to the plant-powered fine diner Yellow. In the 70s, the very walls were the canvas upon which creatives like Brett Whitely and John Olsen expressed themselves — and Pink Floyd popped in for a visit — when the space was an artists’ collective. This rich creative past now backdrops delicate vegan plates from the award-winning team behind Monopole and Bentley.

For American Express delicious. Month Out, you can savour the six-course tasting menu at 30 percent off (excluding beverages). The expertly prepared — and chicly presented — dishes are the proof that plants can provide all the gastronomical wonder you need. May is certainly the month to make a date with fine food (with a side of art history).

For American Express delicious. Month Out, Spice Temple is hosting a particularly appetising class, dedicating two three-hour sessions to dumplings. Executive Chef Andy Evans will show you how to make the modern Chinese restaurant’s two signature options: the stone-cold classic that is pork and prawn, and the always-tasty lamb and fennel. Keen to learn how to make chicken salad with ginger and shallots, as well as the eatery’s house fried rice? You’ll have that covered, too.

First, you’ll watch the experts show you how to whip up their finest dishes. Then, you’ll take those skills home and try to follow in their footsteps.
