Five Foodie Events to Tuck Into This Week in Sydney
Winter's almost done, but the comfort food's still cranking.
Winter's almost done with its chilly bullshit, but before you can pack away your woolies just yet, Sydney's cooking up some serious comfort food that's much better enjoyed in the crisp, colder weather.
There's a handful of deliciously food-focused events happening this week, so we thought we'd put them all on one table for you. Pick one course, or make a degustation of them all. Or you could just go and inhale some popcorn watching Sausage Party. Your choice.

Love a good Italian street festival? Yeah y’do. Italian nosh, wine and live music? What’s not to like? Head for Five Dock this Sunday, August 21 for Ferragosto, showcasing the best of Italian culture on Great North Road.
Celebrating a cheeky 19 years of festivities, Ferragosto is a staple of Canada Bay’s Italian calendar. There’ll be over 160 food, wine and merchandise stalls, live kitchen demos from local chefs, rides for ‘kids’ (yeah, probably still just for actual kids), alongside dance and music performances across four stages.

The bond between Italians and their food and wine is a sacred one, and with the Sydney Italian Wine and Food Festival, Sydneysiders are invited to partake in this holy combination.
Setting up shop for the day in Sydney Town Hall, some of the best names in Italian cuisine have banded together to bring us the good stuff, with food stalls, cooking demonstrations and talks going on all day. Pair that with 200 of Italy’s finest wines and you’ve got yourself a damn good feast. Not to mention a casual negroni stand featuring Vasco’s Max Greco.

As any Sydney seafood aficionado should know by now, The Morrison has a constant focus on the not-so-humble oyster. But in August, when the month-long Oyster Festival takes over, that focus turns into an overwhelming obsession.
From Monday, August 1 through to Wednesday, August 31, the Sydney bar will become a shucking shrine to the freshest oysters around, which will be delivered daily. One of the major drawcards is Oyster Hour. Between 6pm and 7pm every single day, you’ll be able to eat as many oysters as you can handle at just $1 a pop.

Waking up to the smell of something delicious and fresh out of the oven is one of life’s greatest little pleasures. Flour Market is the expert at giving Melburnians that fuzzy stomach feeling by curating selections of the finest bakers and pastry-makers for seasonal bake sales early on weekend mornings.
Flour Market was born and raised in Melbourne, and in May this year, Sydney finally got the chance to join the party. Now, this Sunday, we get to wake up to the wafts of all of the freshly baked goods lined up once more for the Winter Flour Market, all under the one convenient roof at Sydney Boys High.

Not content with a run-of-the-mill cuppa? Find your people at the Sydney Tea Festival, returning to Carriageworks this month for the third year running.
Off the back of their successful venture into Melbourne this May, this wildly popular festival is back with a characteristically eclectic 2016 program. There’s a number of offerings for seasoned specialty tea-lovers and advocates of the humble tea bag alike across its market and workshops.
