Signed to Briggs's Bad Apples Music label, proud Malyangapa, Barkindji woman Barkaa is an emerging force on the local hip hop scene and has already been dubbed "the new matriarch of Australian rap" by GQ magazine.

Her music is a rousing affair, pulling no punches when discussing the oppression and injustices faced by First Nations peoples in modern Australia, and her songs have already become protest anthems for the Blak Lives Matter movement. As part of Carriageworks' program of collaboration with this year's Vivid Sydney, Barkaa will be playing a Saturday night set on August 21 at the respected Eveleigh venue.
