danse (3) – sans spectacle – Performance Space

There’s something so enjoyable about sitting on a cushion while watching someone else push their body.

Overview

Dance lovers may be interested to see danse (3) - sans spectacle, an unconventional pas de trois presented by Rosalind Crisp and Omeo Dance. In a physical exploration of dance itself, the piece sets out to “strip back what dancing is”, identifying itself as “a manifesto for placing dancing at the centre of dance”.

Parisian trio Rosalind Crisp, Céline Debyser and Max Fossati abandon dramaturgy of any kind and instead rely on their highly agile bodies to tell a story. If the reviews for danse (1) are anything to go by, this promises to be an exciting show, one that breaks through choreographic norms and surpasses our habitual expectations of the form.

There’s no fixed seating, so instead of hard-backed chairs you’ll get to make yourself comfortable on the cushions surrounding the performance area. And, really, there’s something so enjoyable about sitting on a cushion while watching someone else push their body to the very edge of its capabilities, isn’t there?

dance (3) is part of the You're History season, something of a birthday party for Performance Space, but don't worry about bringing a gift. They're actually giving you the presents: wrapped-up pieces of performance, visual art, dance, music and more, celebrating their big 3-0. Also showing is Brown Council's ode to feminist performance artist Barbara Cleveland, the bite-sized art of 30 Ways with Time and Space, a creative send-off to analog TV and plenty more.
