Oxford Arts Festival 2011

Oxford Street has had all sorts of phases. Starting out as a dirt track, it was done up as a High Street, demolished and widened for the bubonic plague, and home to rent control and slums in the fifties. Migration dominated in the seventies before it grew into the queer heart of Sydney. The Oxford Arts Festival reckons there's life yet in this pan-suburban road, and returns for a second year of filling it with art and performance.

After a launch at the Beauchamp, the TAP Gallery will host a halloween arts party, comedy, local history from colourful characters, and Picture Postcard, a competition of mobile art on the theme of local postcode 2010. Fellow meditators on 2010, the competitors in the Oxford Art Prize for Landscape & Portraiture will poster the fence of the Supreme Court at Taylor Square, putting all the entrants' art on show good, bad or merely challenging. COFA will run a night of short film, while a clothes swap to benefit Animals Australia will turn up at the festival's temporary gallery at PopUP 58.
