Overview
Lots of interesting things are going on in Parramatta right now. The Sydney Festival is continuing to inch westwards, Parramatta Council is looking to open up empty spaces along Renew Newcastle lines. And then there's ICE. Parramatta's Information and Cultural Exchange (ICE) works to tell the stories of western Sydney, especially its youth and new migrants. Developing the communities culture for your entertainment and their edification, it has its fingers in a lot of pies. Soon to be backing the hip-hop collaboration East London West Sydney with the UK's Jonzi D at Carriageworks for the Sydney Festival, this week it's launching the results of a different collaboration the product of months of work with local artists: the RISE Project.
RISE has taken young people from central and western Sydney and equipped them with digital and physical skills to get their tales across to the wider world — with mentors Vuli Mkwananzi of True Vibenation, MC Trey of Foreign Heights and Mirrah. The results of their work will be launched in ICE's newly refurbished and renewed Switch Digital Arts Centre, with live acts on the night.
RISE launches Thursday evening, but RSVP by Monday the 13th via info@ice.org.au or on 9897 5744 to avoid missing out.
