Yours and Owls 2021

Overview

It's been a long time between drinks for music festivals in New South Wales. Across the ditch, New Zealand has been hosting major music events for months and even up north in Brisbane smaller-scale music festivals have been back on the cards. But, if you're a Sydneysider, footage from NZ's Rhythm and Vines festival may seem like a parallel universe at this point. These scenes may not be so alien to NSW for much longer, however, with Wollongong's annual two-day music festival Yours and Owls being granted the go-ahead from the NSW Government.

The two-day festival will go down in Dalton Park, a larger site just down the road from Stuart Park, its usual home. Between Saturday, April 17–Sunday, April 18 attendees will be treated to sets from festival mainstays like What So Not, Tones and I and DMA's, as well as beloved Wollongong locals Hockey Dad — and an undercard spanning from Sydney dance-pop trio Haiku Hands to Melbourne punk group Slowly Slowly. DMA's, Hockey Dad and Tones and I's performances will serve as bookends to the state's festival drought in a fashion, after all three acts performed at one of NSW's last pre-pandemic festivals, Laneway 2020.

As part of its COVID plan, attendees will be split into four sections surrounding a two rotating stages. And, thanks to the rolling back of restrictions in the state, the NSW Government has allowed Yours and Owls to be the state's first major music festival to allow dancing.
