Overview

Since 1996, the not-for-profit 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art has served up an array of thought-provoking exhibitions designed to facilitate cultural dialogue. Situated in the heart of Haymarket, 4A is the perfect place to head pre- or post-dumpling feast to expand your cultural understanding and check out some top-notch art. Trust us, the compelling installations will give you plenty to talk about with your mate or date. 

At the minute, the exhibition All Blessings, All Curses by Sydney-based artist Justine Youssef is on show until December 16. Born in Western Sydney, Youssef draws upon her personal experiences and memories of her ancestral homeland Lebanon to create immersive works which tackle weighty issues, like xenophobia, faith, family and identity.

More broadly, 4A's program highlights the dynamic relationship between Australia and Asia, focusing on the contribution that Asian migration has made — and continues to make — in shaping multicultural Australia. The exhibitions, which showcase a multiplicity of perspectives, give some insight into the diverse nature of Asian-Australian experiences and aim to improve cross-country connection.

4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art is open Tuesday–Friday, 11am–5pm (Thursday until 8pm) and 11am–4pm on weekends. Check out the full program via the website.
