Overview

New Zealand Symphony Orchestra's Shed Series returns for 2019, serving more sweet symphonies by the sea. Debuting in 2018 at Shed 6, the NZSO will return for four more thematic concerts this year. Just like last year, each concert will be a delicate smorgasbord of works from classical colossi and contemporary composers.

The first of the Shed Series concerts, Rebirth, will be held at the Wellington waterfront venue on 8 February. Rebirth will offer summer evening sounds laced with jazz and world music influences. Likewise, the following concerts, Responses, Sifonietta and Unwound will bring mixtures of sonic influence, including works by jazz legend Duke Ellington, the New Zealand premiere of a work by Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood, and the world's greatest tango composer.

And yet, the true beauty of the Shed Series lies within its relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Whilst the orchestra performs, you may sit, stand, chat over a drink, or grab something to eat. All pretence is removed, whilst the wonderful atmosphere and music stays the same.
