Overview

For those wanting to kick the weekend off to a promising start, and a little prematurely, the first Thursday of every month is Tuatara Open Late,  a celebration of art, music, film, books, beer, wine and food. All of the best things in life. Sigh.

August’s Tuatara Open Late will be especially jam-packed, seeing as they’ll be celebrating their 21st birthday at the old public library building with an attractive line-up of events including the Wellington band Orchestra of Spheres, interactive activities, and an impressive range of food and drinks on hand.

What’s more, the intriguing works of Seung Yul Oh, a multimedia visual artist will once again be on show. The Korean artist might be best known for his one-night-only exhibition when he deep fried all of his paintings.  The artist has been featured at a few late night shows since the regime started out, and his works are always entrancing and pretty freaking awesome. His latest project, The Ability to Blow Themselves Up showcases the otherwise entirely ignored but completely underrated human expression that occurs when one blows up a balloon to the point of explosion. It’s hysterical. And you should go see it. Especially since it is free.

Nikau is catering the gig, and Tuatara beer will be keeping you generously lubricated, along with Seresin wines and Six Barrel Soda.
