Overview

Tory Street keeps getting better and better. This strip is now a bit of dining and drinking mecca thanks to a lineup of top notch establishments including Le Samourai, Monte Cervino and Hawthorn Lounge.

At 100 Tory Street, the former site of a nightclub/shisha den has recently been transformed into a gorgeous French patisserie and cafe. This new spot couldn't be any further from its previous incarnation. Gone are the gaudy disco lights and sticky floors. In their place, a pretty new resident named Grace.

Boasting a clean, contemporary fit-out with pastel colours and a floral aesthetic, Grace Patisserie has a bright and inviting vibe. The service is welcoming and pleasant and the staff are happy chatting me through the various delights on display.

There's a moreish selection of fresh-baked pastries lining the cabinet including croissants and pain au chocolat. For a savoury fix, there's filled baguettes. But let's be honest. What I am really here for are the cakes.

The cakes at Grace are things of beauty. Combining Asian flavours (think yuzu and pandan) with French patisserie techniques, the petits gâteaux are mini works of art.

Choosing which cake to tuck into was probably the hardest part of my visit, but c'est la vie. I was torn between the chocolate passionfruit number and the tarty lemon meringue. After much deliberation I opted for a gooey feijoa, spice and caramel treat, a seasonal special which did not disappoint. These decadent morsels are delicately crafted and dang delicious.

I am told the talented patissiers will be regularly crafting new creations to go with the seasons. I can't wait to come back for more.

In case you need more sweetening up, you can also pick up some dainty macarons ($3 each) in tempting flavours like salted caramel, rose and pistachio. They do nifty gift boxes too and limited edition flavours for special occasions.

The drinks menu is short and sweet, with coffee, juices and sodas. The coffee was well made and a perfect accompaniment for my crunchy croissant.

For a dessert fiend like me, this is very welcome addition to the neighbourhood. I'm a sucker for sweet and pretty things and Grace Patisserie certainly takes the cake.
