The Conservatory is one of New Zealand's first 'living bars', the space is true to its name with lilies and various other seasonal New Zealand fauna growing throughout the bar. With a sophisticated water system to keep the plants well-watered, the bar even has its own preener. It really is quite something.

Frequented by a combination of tourists, businessmen and locals the bar is laid-back and relaxed, paying homage to its sunny, oceanside setting. Cocktails are served in brightly coloured watering cans and large bespoke vases serve beer, really bringing the garden theme to life.

The service is excellent – we were greeted by the friendly staff upon entry, seated and drink orders are efficiently taken. The menu is perfect for sharing - with a selection of small sharing plates and their infamous 18 inch pizzas. Absolutely delicious.

The Conservatory is the perfect spot for a casual bonding session with friends, or just a spot to people watch and enjoy the ocean views.
