In a world where few things are as simple as one would hope them to be, some things are: like turning down the lights, forgetting that other people with eyes and judgmental minds exist, and shaking what your mama gave you.

Celebrating this exact notion, No Lights, No Lycra can be described as nothing less than a worldwide phenomenon. From Brooklyn to London, Paris to Wanaka, this international dance community cha-chas with the belief that everyone can dance and offers an inclusive and non-judgmental place for people to dance like a mad man in the dark to great music.

Initiated in Melbourne five years ago by a couple of unruly dance students, the idea was to create a space to dance with no need for technique, steps to learn, unforgiving light or equally unforgiving lycra – just a daggy, non-pretentious place to completely be yourself. Pretty awesome, huh?

No Lights, No Lycra will be shaking its way to Auckland on October 16 at Q Theatre, and it only costs a fiver - #score.
