At long last, Remuera has taken some cues from its sister-suburb, Ponsonby. Suburban dwellers can opt out of Auckland's evening traffic in pursuit of a suave European eatery to wine and dine in.

It would seem there's a new kid on the block and it's already creating waves in the central-east gastronomic scene. In the space once known as The Maple Room now resides a sophisticated bistro named Morell. Taking on a bold and stylistic approach to suburban dining, Morell aims to exceed what we've come to expect from our local neighbourhood bistro.

Having gained some of its popularity through social media channels due to its aesthetically pleasing qualities, Morell currently seems to be the it place to be. Its minimalist fit-out and intricate cocktails have the hearts of Instagrammers racing.

Established on the corner of Upland Road opposite Benson Road Deli, Morell is set to rival its neighbourhood counterparts. Locals can rest easy knowing that their new watering hole lies in the experienced hands of husband and wife duo Sarah and Dan Morini — previously involved in SPQR.

The foundation that Morell's concept was built was to ensure that the needs of the locals were first and foremost looked after. Adhering to every notion is a space that's light, bright and welcoming. Hosting a relaxed indoor/outdoor flow provides patrons with an ideal indoor lunch oasis and as the sun sets the perfect spot to enjoy an afternoon tipple curb-side.

Morell holds a certain elegance that exudes through its brass accents and dark woods which extends itself to their carefully curated menu. Seasonal and local ingredients are celebrated throughout including Pacific raw fish with coconut cream, lemon and fresh tomato. A stand out dish for us was Morell's market fish accompanied with a light saffron risotto, Italian pecorino and a revitalising mandarin oil. If that doesn't take your fancy, the beef short rib with beetroot, potato, mustard custard and thyme jus is sure to satisfy.

Morell has seamlessly established itself into the woven fabrics of Remuera. It's a truely versatile and pleasurable environment to be in. We feel it's going to the place to be for these warmer evenings.
