They're all also on offer at new New Farm eatery Cafe Phoenix, which clearly understands just how great it is to grab a bite in the hours before the morning turns to afternoon. That's when anything goes, really. Fancy a cappuccino? A salted caramel milkshake? Apple crumble waffles with butterscotch sauce? Avocado smash with haloumi and lemon marmalade? Yep, they all grace the Welsby Street establishment's chef-designed menu.

What you won't find listed in print is Cafe Phoenix's secret weapon, as anyone with even the slightest sweet tooth will enthusiastically agree. Because having dessert after brunch is one of the small joys of being alive, don't forget to check out their cake range. Who can resist a slice of lavender, rhubarb and white chocolate cheesecake, or a piece of chocolate cake with berry buttercream, meringue and honeycomb?
