Overview

This vibrant Indian restaurant is the new kid on the block in Fitzroy's outrageously trendy Brunswick Street. Masti, by owner and head chef Manpreet Sekhon (aka the 'Curry Queen', of Eastern Spice fame in Geelong), brings a light-hearted and laidback approach to Indian dining. With a classic wooden bar to lean on over a bowl of lamb vindaloo and dim lighting to set the mood, this is the kind of place to stay a while, not just dine and dash.

Exploring the tantalising flavours of all of India, Masti offers up a selection of appetisers including papdi chaat, their own unique take on nachos, alongside classics like tandoori chicken. There are 17 curries on offer, almost half of them vegetarian, like the fig and pomegranate kofta, with three exclusively vegan. Carnivores among us can tuck into a boneless goat curry, a tangy prawn curry with secret spices or a good old butter chicken, cooked just how you remember it. Savour with a side of masala fries and finish the night with a bit of sweet talk – feasting on Indian donuts, carrot pudding and the unmissable mango lassi.

Sommelier Riley Schwartz has constructed a short but sweet wine list, with drops that work perfectly with all the spices. The cocktail menu features house concoctions such as a Tea-Groni, an orange peel tea- infused gin with Campari and sweet vermouth, plus classic sours, martinis and spritzes.

Masti is not just a great Indian restaurant, it's also a fun place to hang out and down a few drinks at the bar – which makes it perfect for this part of town.
