Overview
The ever-popular Bairro Português — Petersham Festival is coming back for its 21st year. On Sunday, March 19, from 11am–4pm, Audley and Fisher Streets will be filled with Portuguese music, dancers and local artists while food stalls sling traditional and contemporary foods throughout the day.
It's an all-in-one family festival in Sydney's Inner West, celebrating Portuguese culture in all its colourful glory.
Foodies should prepare to visit the family-owned pastry boutique Sweet Belem, as the team serves up its famous Portuguese custard tarts. Bifanas and malasadas will be streaming out of the Madeira Club and Nucleo Sporting Clube de Portugal de Sydney food stalls while SP Originals will be frying fresh croquettes all day.
Be sure to wash it all down with some Portuguese wine, beer and sangria from Petersham RSL and Petersham Liquor Mart's licensed bars.
With sangria in hand, head to the main stage to see some traditional musical performances and dances from Aldeias de Portugal and Alma Orquestra and some more current Portuguese DJ sets from Herois do Bar. The Sydney Choro Club and Batucada Funk will also be making music on the move throughout the festival site.
This street party is going to be massive — making up for the years missed during COVID. And Bairro Português — Petersham Festival is for everyone, not only locals and those with Portuguese heritage. You've just got to love good food, music and art.
