Overview

The second Hurley Australian Open of Surfing won’t be just another surf contest. It’ll be an epic. Over the course of nine days, there’ll be surfing, world-class skateboarding and beachfront concerts.

People will be pouring into Manly in their tens of thousands to catch the men’s and women’s ASP World Qualifying Tour competitions, as well as international-level junior events. Plus, Channel V will be taking over a free, all-ages stage right on the sand. So you’ll be able to watch The Presets and Birds of Tokyo while keeping an eye on the waves.

New South Wales’ 1,300 kilometres of coastline means that it’s a breeding ground for surfing talent. Several home-grown athletes will present hot competition this year. These include 2012 Australian Open of Surfing champion Sally Fitzgibbons, who hails from Gerroa, and 2012 Pro Junior and Star Series champion Matt Banning.

Soak it all up at the event's own pop-up, the Surfing World Bar, which sets up just across from the beach in the Novotel's Charlie Bar.
