Overview
Say 'aye' if you trust the word of the Chaser crew, and watch tumbleweed drift between our internet connections. The team have made us laugh, think and scoff all at once, and a quick look at the Museum of Words website — both puzzling and tongue-in-cheek — will tell you that this Charles Firth creation is no different.
The two-week exhibition premieres on Saturday, November 16, at a Potts Point terrace hidden along Challis Avenue. Basically, Australian words and passages written by Australians will be mounted in a museum-style format (audio tours and all) with, err, "only the best words that Australia — and Sydney — has to offer".
Supported by the City of Sydney in conjunction with Sydney Writers' Room, it will leave use punters to reflect upon the meaning of words taken out of context.
Apparently.
This writer can't help but think the website's pulling her leg. Is this a joke on the art world? A mock of the ridiculous things Australian faces have said (see: Alan Jones)? An actual linguistic study? An investigation into Australian and Sydney culture? No? Who can tell.
Maybe we'll rock up to the Potts Point terrace come Saturday, November 16, to find we've been punk'd by one of the masters.
