Overview
The Hashtag Burgers team continues to expand its In-N-Out-inspired burger joint, despite an ongoing lawsuit with the Californian chain. What started as a pop-up back in 2016 has now grown to four permanent Down N' Out locations — CBD, Top Ryde, Bankstown and Crows Nest — and, as of Thursday, December 12, a fifth outpost in The Hills.
Like the other locations, the Castle Hill shop pays homage to In-N-Out's classic combo of beef, American cheese and secret sauce. The succinct five-burger menu — which was originally created by former Mr. Crackles Head Chef Sebastien Cens — includes a single and double wagyu, a southern fried chicken number, a panko-crumbed mushroom burg and a weekly special.
Next level add-ons include "tiger style" (mustard-grilled patty with caramelised onions), peri peri sauce, hash browns and even a deep-fried cheese patty. There are also classic southern sides like popcorn chicken, jalapeño poppers and onion rings to choose from.
Apart from the burgers, the 120-seat dive bar boasts a "nostalgic 90s theme" — think heaps of memorabilia and neon signs, plus pinball machines and 90s cartoons playing on the television. For drinks, the brand's signature tower of tinnies will be on offer and includes 25 craft brews from locals like Wayward and Yulli's Brews, as well as from around the country and the US. And boozy milkshakes, cocktails and wine also make the cut.
