Overview
Don't let the dark, cold Wellington winter get in the way of festive feelings this year. The Lōemis Winter Solstice Festival is back to celebrate the longest and darkest time of the year.
Over eight days you can indulge in a mix of extravagant feasts, dance, music and theatre; which then culminates in a fiery procession on the waterfront. From a themed degustation and screening of 1970s classic The Wickerman to a specially curated dining experience at Field & Green, Lōemis is sure to encourage even the most stubborn out of hibernation.
There are a number of ticketed events this year but for those wanting to squirrel away their pennies you can still enjoy the Solstice experience. Visit the Wellington Central Library to meet a prodigious sculpture named Seraphina. Feed her your your ails and tell her your deepest hopes and dreams, then when the solstice arrives join the procession and watch her light up the sky in flames, rejoicing in birth, death and rebirth.
